Season 2 Episode 4 | I'm Disconnected (how your numbness is protecting you)
Episode Summary
You still laugh at the right moments. You answer the texts. Go to work. Make dinner. Tick the boxes. From the outside, nothing looks unusual. But somewhere along the way, life started feeling like something you're watching instead of something you're living.
The things that once brought you joy, now pass by you almost unnoticed.Good news feels flat. Bad news feels distant. Even the people you love can feel strangely out of reach. It's unsettling because you remember what it used to feel like to be excited, connected, deeply present. Now everything feels like it’s on mute.
The thing is, emotional numbness rarely arrives overnight. It usually appears after you've spent months, or years holding everything together. Managing everyone else's needs and carrying stress your body never had the chance to recover from. You had to push through emotional exhaustion because stopping never felt like an option.
Here's what most people don't realize...Feeling nothing isn't the opposite of feeling everything. Sometimes it's what happens after feeling too much for too long.
Your nervous system was never designed to stay on high alert indefinitely. When stress becomes your normal, your body eventually makes a decision for you. It simply stops asking you to carry what has become too heavy.
That changes everything because there was never anything wrong with you in the first place.
Your body has been protecting you in the only way it knows how. And while that protection may have helped you survive, it can also leave you feeling disconnected from the very things that make life feel meaningful.
Relationships. Joy. Curiosity. Even yourself.
The beautiful part is that numbness isn't a life sentence. Your nervous system can learn a new way of operating by slowly teaching your body that it no longer has to stay guarded every moment of every day.
In this episode, we're exploring why emotional numbness happens, how chronic stress and nervous system overwhelm quietly disconnect you from yourself, why self-criticism often keeps the cycle alive, and the gentle somatic practices that can begin helping you feel emotionally connected again, one small moment at a time.

The Invitation
This week's pause is to gently find your way back to your body.
You don't need to force yourself to feel everything all at once. Right now, your nervous system isn't asking for more effort, t's asking for connection.
Take 30 seconds to one minute to feel your feet on the ground. Notice the sensation of being supported beneath you, and stay with that feeling for as long as you comfortably can.
Then slowly rub your hands together. This gentle movement helps activate your vagus nerve, sending your body a quiet message:
"I'm safe."
If it feels good, add a few slow, gentle stretches. Roll your ankles. Wiggle your toes. Stretch your waist. Nothing forceful or punishing—just small movements that invite your body back into connection.
Practice this every day.
And as you move through your week, notice the moments you've been wanting to run away from yourself. Instead of pushing those feelings aside, pause and meet them with curiosity. Reconnecting with yourself doesn't happen all at once, it happens one gentle moment at a time.
Work With Muneeza
If this episode resonated, there's a good chance you've spent a long time wondering why you feel so disconnected from yourself.
Maybe you've convinced yourself you're just tired, unmotivated, or "not the same person you used to be." But emotional numbness isn't something you simply snap out of. It's often your nervous system asking for something it never had the chance to receive: safety.
Inside somatic coaching, we gently work with the patterns that keep your body stuck in survival mode so you can begin reconnecting with your emotions, your body, and yourself in a way that feels safe.
You don't have to force your way back to feeling alive. Your body already knows the way. I can teach you how to listen to your body.
