Season 2 Episode 3 | I Don't Want To Feel This(the fear that your feelings will consume you)
Episode Summary
You're halfway through a conversation when you feel it.
The words that sting and for a split second, something rises inside you. You are caught off guard and all you are filled with disappointment. Your eyes want to fill, your chest tightens and your throat catches.
You shift between anger, hurt and embarrassment. Almost instantly, another part of you steps in and whispers “Don't react.”
So you smile, and change the subject. You tell yourself it doesn't matter that you should just keep the peace. You keep on moving and convince yourself you've let it go. That you’ve moved on.
The conversation ended and you go back to life. You answer a few emails, make dinner, and carry on with your day.
From the outside, nothing seems unusual. Its all fine. But your body tells a different story. Your shoulders stay tense, your jaw can’t quite relax and you have a headache that’s been creeping in for hours.
By the evening, you're completely drained by a day that didn't seem particularly difficult. You take stock of the day. Nothing dramatic happened, you didn't lose control, you didn't say anything you'd regret. On the contrary, you handled it exactly the way you always do.
So why does your body still feel like it's carrying something? It's confusing. You tell yourself it wasn't that big of a deal and that you've already moved on. Maybe you even wonder if you're just being too sensitive or overreacting, after all, the conversation is over.
So why do you still feel stuck? Most of us assume the problem is that we felt too much, so we chide ourselves and then try and move on, or try to look at the positive side. Convince ourselves to let it go. “ Hey if I don’t think about it then I have moved on right?”
Here's what most people don't realize; your body doesn't decide an emotion is finished just because your lived experience is over.
If you've spent years swallowing anger, pushing down sadness, or talking yourself out of disappointment, your nervous system may still be carrying the stress of those moments long after they've passed.
That changes everything.
Because suddenly the headaches, the tight shoulders, the emotional exhaustion, the constant tension, even the feeling that you're always "holding it together"... don't look like personal weakness anymore.
They look like a body that's been protecting you the only way it knows how.
In this episode, we're exploring why suppressing emotions doesn't make them disappear, what emotional suppression does to your nervous system over time, and how learning to work with your emotions, not against them, can help your body finally begin to let go.
Continue the Conversation
Some conversations are worth spending a little more time with so that's why I created The Pause Library.
It's a growing collection of guided courses, reflective journals, practical exercises, and companion resources designed to help you better understand yourself, one step at a time.
Every podcast episode also includes After the Pause, a companion reflection with one thoughtful question to help you continue the conversation, with yourself or inside the private Pause Community.

The Invitation
This week's pause is in that moment when you're feeling that big burst of emotion is to come back to you.
We're going to do 3 things.
1.What do you hear?
In that moment, just pause and take a breath. Listen to what you hear around you. Just orient yourself to the sounds.
2. What do you see?
Pick 3 things that you see.
3. What can you touch?
Whatever you're sitting on, whatever you're wearing, those are always things that you can touch, and keep connection to yourself.
And then feel that emotion at the same time.
If it becomes too much, then you can put it away in your box and promise yourself, and make a commitment to say, "Hey, I'll come back to it later."
Work With Muneeza
I hope this episode helped you understand that keeping everything together on the outside doesn't mean your body has been able to let it go on the inside.
Perhaps you've spent so long swallowing your feelings, pushing through difficult moments, and convincing yourself you're "fine" that you've stopped noticing how much energy it takes to stay disconnected from what you're really feeling.
The thing is, your emotions were never the problem. Your body has simply been doing exactly what it learned to do to protect you.
Understanding that is an important first step. But lasting change doesn't happen because you know why your body responds this way. It happens when your nervous system has repeated experiences of learning that it's safe to stay connected to your emotions without becoming overwhelmed by them.
That's the work we do together inside somatic coaching.
Together, we'll gently help your body release the patterns of emotional suppression, chronic stress, and constant self-protection that have kept you in survival mode for so long, so you can begin responding to life from a place of greater calm, connection, and emotional safety.
If you're ready to stop carrying everything on your own, I'd be honoured to walk alongside you.
